Jukebox Code of Conduct
MIPI, together with the jukebox industry, recently implemented a Jukebox Code of Conduct (Code). The Code applies to all companies, businesses and individuals dealing with jukeboxes in the industry, including jukebox owners and operators and jukebox content providers.

I am a jukebox content provider. How does the Code affect me?
Under the Code, as a provider of jukebox content, you have obligations to:
- Reproduce musical works in accordance with the terms of your licence with AMCOS;
- Provide appropriate levels of protection or encryption to your jukebox music;
- Only provide your jukebox content to customers who have a valid Registration Number;
- When reporting to AMCOS, list the Registration Numbers of your customers; and
- Provide your customers with a copy of the Code and Jukebox Fact Sheet.
What happens if I don’t comply with the obligations on jukebox content providers?
If you do not comply with the obligations on jukebox content providers under the Code, you may be in breach of your licensing agreement with AMCOS. You may also be contacted by MIPI, who will take appropriate further action if you continue to operate in contravention of the Code.
I am a jukebox owner or operator. How does the Code affect me?
Under the Code, as a jukebox owner or operator, you must:
- Apply to MIPI for a valid Registration Number for each jukebox that you own or operate – this can be done here;
- Apply the Registration Number (sticker) to each jukebox that you own or operate; and
- Notify your jukebox content provider of your Registration Numbers.
What is a valid Registration Number?
A valid Registration Number is obtained by registering each jukebox that you operate with MIPI. You will then receive a unique barcode sticker stating your Registration Number which must be affixed to the relevant jukebox.
I own a jukebox that contains karaoke backing tracks. Do I register as a karaoke operator and a jukebox operator?
If you own or operate a jukebox that contains both regular jukebox tracks and karaoke tracks, you should register as both a jukebox operator and karaoke operator under the Codes. You will then receive two Registration Numbers (stickers) for each jukebox – one for the jukebox and one for the karaoke content on that jukebox. Both Registration Numbers should remain affixed to the relevant jukebox at all times.
What happens if I don’t register as a jukebox owner or operator with MIPI?
If you have not received a Registration Number from MIPI for each jukebox that you operate, your jukebox content provider cannot provide you with music.
What happens if my Registration Number isn’t affixed to my jukebox?
MIPI will conduct random venue visits checking that valid Registration Numbers are affixed to all jukeboxes. If a jukebox is not registered with MIPI, appropriate further action may be taken.
Do all jukebox content providers and jukebox owners and operators have to be part of the Code?
Yes, in order to be effective, the Code applies to all individuals, businesses and companies using jukeboxes as part of their business.
